President Claudia Sheinbaum was questioned during her morning conference about reports mentioning a supposed request for Spanish nationality by Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller. The initial information came from the ABC newspaper in Spain, which indicated that the wife of Andrés Manuel López Obrador had started the process to obtain nationality. Despite the dissemination in several media outlets, there has been no official statement from Gutiérrez Müller regarding this matter.
In contrast to the reports, other media have stated that different documents have actually been managed. In the original version, the presence of Gutiérrez Müller at Spanish consular offices in Mexico City is mentioned, and the supposed request for nationality is criticized, considering her role in the controversy between the Spanish Crown and the Mexican Government regarding the events of the conquest of Tenochtitlán.
Let us remember that in the past, Gutiérrez Müller directed a controversial letter to the Spanish authorities requesting a formal apology. In response to questions about this topic, Sheinbaum declared that she had no information about it nor knowledge of any such request from the writer. However, she added that Gutiérrez Müller is within her rights to do so if she wishes.
